Rector’s Ramblings

By The Rev. Jim Stewart

The weather is turning and most people are getting excited for the change from winter to springtime and starting over again.  A time to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Lent always reminds me of winter when we look and reflect on who we are and pray to God for our families and friends.  But as soon as Easter comes, we remember the resurrection and start looking for rebirth around us.  Plants, trees, and new creations.  Life is amazing during this time of year.  But then life can always be wonderful when we include Jesus in our lives and share the world around us with all of God’s children.  If you have ever watched a child or a creature do something for the first time you can experience the joy God has put before us.

Most of my life I have planned large projects at home and for others during the summer, but this year it is my plan to get out in nature and enjoy what God has created.  What He has given us.  Fishing and exploring the mountains with my wife and dogs.  Sometimes we need to say enough is enough and enjoy the life God has given us.

As we get older, we start reflecting on all the things we were going to do in our lifetime and as we look back, we wonder what happened and how time has slipped away from us.  I believe there is no better time than the present to begin enjoying ourselves.  I have realized though I am getting older I will never be this young again.  The things I have not done do not disappoint me because I have done so much more in my lifetime than I expected.

Joy is in your own heart and to be joyous is up to you.  It is a time to let go of all your past and give thanks to God for the gifts He has given us.  Look with eyes of a child as you explore the joyous times God still has in store for each of us.
